Resident

The appointee serves as a member of the house staff or trainee of a Health Center professional school.

The term “intern” usually refers to a resident in the first year of postgraduate work in the involved specialty. Notwithstanding the foregoing, in the College of Veterinary Medicine an “Intern” is a participant in a one year program. An Intern in the College of Veterinary Medicine must hold a veterinary degree and be a graduate of an accredited veterinary school.

Graduate Research Associate

The appointee shall, as a minimum, have completed most of the work leading to a doctorate. Appointment to either of these positions represents a promotion from the position of Graduate Teaching or Research Assistant.

Graduate Assistant – Research

Serves in a support role at a university, usually while completing post-graduate education. The assistant typically helps professors with academic research responsibilities as research assistants.

Graduate Assistant – Teaching

Serves in a support role at a university, usually while completing post-graduate education. Typically helps professors with instructional responsibilities as teaching assistants.

Postdoctoral Fellow

The appointment is for the individual’s further experience in research and teaching and is generally limited to two (2) or three (3) years. To qualify for a fellowship exemption under the Federal income tax laws, no assigned duties and responsibilities or services can be required other than those which are an integral part of the Fellow’s program in research and teaching. Appointees to these positions shall have no continuing contractual relationship with the University.

Postdoctoral Associate

Performs or supervises research on assigned projects. Coordinates project activities and repots on progress. Writes articles for publication. Prepares research and presents to applicable parties as needed. Compiles data for funding proposals. Trains and mentors subordinate research associates and undergraduate students. Assists with the writing of funding proposals.

New postdoctoral appointments must have a base salary of $58,656 or more. This salary may be prorated based on FTE but cannot be prorated below the FLSA minimum salary, currently $35,568.

Postdoctoral associates may be appointed for up to four (4) years. Appointments of the postdoctoral associate beyond four (4) years will acquire approval of the Senior Vice President of the area requesting the appointment

Senior Associate In

Responsible for assisting professorial staff with teaching, research and/or service activities or assisting in professional academic responsibilities which are directly related or supplemental to the instructional/academic mission of the department/unit.
